We continue to build community in many different ways to raise awareness and advocate for 2SLGBTQIA+ youth. Our goal is safe and inclusive communities for our youth in the Fraser Valley.

Youth and Staff Led Workshops

We have developed school based presentations on diversity including 2SLGBTQIA+ education, definitions, pronoun use and other customized presentations as requested. We present at Professional Development sessions and for youth during Mental Health Week. This has been a very big step forward with the local school districts and we are excited to build on our relationship.

We were included in an Out in Schools 2SLGBTQIA+ Parent Forum in Abbotsford and are planning similar events for Mission and Chilliwack. We also offer presentations for community partners, awareness events and post secondary institutions. Please email info.fvys@gmail.com if you are interested in a presentation at your workplace or other event.

Awareness

We continue to connect with schools in all three communities we serve to offer an updated 2SLGBTQIA+ Resource Guide and school GSA support. We want all educators to be aware of the resources and supports available for them as an educator/supporter and, of course, for 2SLGBTQIA+ youth. Please see our Resources and Links pages for more information.

We participate in community events such forums and festivals. These events allow our youth to be out in the community talking to other youth and community members about our programs. We often talk about giving back to our community and many of our youth are excited to go to events and bring awareness to 2SLGBTQIA+ and allied youth and the issues they are facing. They aren’t obligated, we can’t stop their enthusiasm!

Our youth are a big part of Fraser Valley Pride Celebration from planning through to participating the day of the event. This is an all ages, inclusive event including a walk. “Everyone” is welcome! It is truly heart warming to see these youth celebrating with their friends, family and the general community. Please visit our Fraser Valley Pride Celebration page for more information on passed and upcoming Pride events.
